I will admit that I don't ordinarily worry too much
about taking pics of anybody but Jimi when I go to shows, but in this
case, I felt obliged to get a good record of the whole event. This is
partly because every Jimi fan in the world owes Fergie an enormous
debt of gratitude--it was one of the benefit shows he does every year
to raise money for hepatitis C awareness and research that convinced
Jimi and Jim Peterik to start working together again, and without
that, Crossroads Moment would
probably never even have been thought of, much less made. But there is
another, much sadder reason, as well: Fergie was diagnosed with
inoperable liver cancer earlier this summer, and heaven alone knows
how many more times he'll be up to performing. Not to say that he
didn't do a terrific job that night--I don't have any prior experience
for comparison, of course, but to me he didn't seem particularly
handicapped either physically or vocally any of the time he was
onstage. Even so, though, there was still a sense of fragility about
him that just made my heart hurt to see, and I hope everyone who stops
to take in these pics will join me in keeping him and all his friends
and family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Edited June 2012 to add: Looks like I was a touch too pessimistic in my judgment--Fergie is doing great now from what I hear, and he even has a new CD out. (Which just happens to be awesome, by the way; I heartily recommend picking up a copy!)
Mark Reuter (lead guitar/vocals) and the keyboardist, whom I unfortunately can't credit by name because he's not listed on the band's website...
