I once read a book that made an interesting analogy between the human male and automobiles. Basically, it said that there are two types of men in the world: Ferraris and Toyotas. Ferraris are fast, flashy, and great fun, but also prone to odd quirks and breaking down the moment you look at them sideways, while Toyotas are less outwardly impressive, but a great deal steadier and more reliable. The men detailed in the following pages are mostly Ferrari-types--you kind of have to be to make it in a competitive environment like the entertainment industry. But while it's fun to daydream about taking a Ferrari for a spin, so to speak, I'm really much more of a Toyota girl at heart. However much I might seem to romanticize the whole rock-star thing, I don't have too many illusions when it comes down to brass tacks. I don't delude myself into thinking that I'd be happier actually paired with any of the men you'll see listed in these pages, because I am certain that I wouldn't be--even if I'd been the right age or pretty enough to have a chance with any of them (and neither applies, trust me!) the pace of the lifestyle would probably do me in. No; I am content with my life as it stands, and with my own husband, who is a gentle, geeky soul with scarcely a musical bone in his body. Nonetheless, he suits me right down to the ground, and I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. (And, incidentally, for all you single girls out there, I highly recommend geeks as partners--to read more on the subject, click here.) I guess my ultimate point, then, is that this is all intended in a lighthearted spirit. Lusting after unattainable men is something I do for amusement; I'm a writer, and letting my imagination run wild is pretty much second nature. But at the same time, I see my little flights of fancy for what they are--and so should you. This is all a bit of harmless fun, and not to be taken too very seriously. So--having said that, make your choice: |
